Due to recent COVID-19 developments, please refer to this page for frequent updates regarding our hours of operation, services, and procedures for Student Basic Needs business operations including the Trojan Food Pantry. Please also be mindful that there is an increased need for our resources, and due to COVID-19 policies on campus and statewide, we have strict food procurement opportunities which limit the resources we have. Trojan Food Pantry
Due to the current public health crisis, the Trojan Food Pantry is temporarily closed until further notice. We encourage students to utilize community resources. The full list of resources can be found here. Please email basicneeds@usc.edu for additional food support.
Virtual CalFresh Appointments
Calfresh appointments have gone virtual! To fill out a Calfresh application with a USC Calfresh Navigator Via zoom, please email pantry@usc.edu.
Another important update – pending federal legislation, eligibility and restrictions around work and income requirements may be loosened due to the global pandemic of COVID19. The Trojan Food Pantry will offer updates on this matter but is encouraging students experiencing food insecurity to complete the 30-minute application either on their own or with a Calfresh navigator.
Technology Rentals
Student Basic Needs and USC Information Technology Services are working together to provide students with rental laptops and hotspots. For assistance, fill out the Technology Assistance Form.
Zoom Consultations with Student Basic Needs Staff
Experiencing financial stress, food/housing insecurity, and/or other barriers and want support and guidance? Do you have additional basic needs questions or need help navigating campus and community resources? Book a 30-minute consultation via Zoom with our Student Basic Needs staff by emailing basicneeds@usc.edu.
Emergency Relief Funding
Student Basic Needs Emergency Grant
The Student Basic Needs Emergency Grant is a one-time funding opportunity for basic needs such as rent, food, or medical bills. Eligibility is determined by Financial Aid. Please email basicneeds@usc.edu for more information.
We would encourage students to reach out to their academic unit in case there is an emergency fund available. The Student Basic Needs team would still be happy to meet with students to further discuss the situation and whether or not there are other opportunities available that may meet the student’s needs.

Give today to help USC students who are impacted by COVID-19
Today, students need immediate help with unexpected expenses related to COVID-19. Many are having difficulty paying their rent or buying food and other necessities, as off-campus part-time jobs and internships throughout the business community disappear. Others face the cost of returning to their hometowns throughout the world or of obtaining stronger internet connections as they shift to online learning. You can help.
The USC Student Basic Needs Fund supports the students in our Trojan Family who are experiencing financial difficulties at this time of unprecedented uncertainty. The fund assists with:
- Housing expenses
- Food insecurity
- Emergency travel
- Income loss related to closed workplaces
- Technology upgrades required for remote instruction
- Other unforeseen needs stemming from the current crisis
Your support not only provides financial help, but also the resources and sense of hope our students need to be able to finish their semester strong.
